Component-level troubleshooting
At Latter Electronic we offer troubleshooting and repair all the way down to component level. This enables us to get your defective units up and running again quickly and efficiently, so you can minimise downtime and keep production going without unnecessary delays.
We would like to share how we work to find and fix the defective components. Often we have no schematics or diagrams of the units or their circuits — but we have developed a systematic process that can be broken down into several steps.
Most circuits resemble each other with small differences and can in many cases be recognised and identified quickly. Like our cars: the engine looks broadly the same, but there can be small differences in how it is built.
1. Visual inspection
The first step is a visual inspection, looking for signs of damaged components, overloading, thermal damage, broken wires, bad solder joints and the like.
If we find no visible signs of defects, we perform a continuity check to detect any short circuits before applying voltage to the unit.
2. Functional testing
Next, we try — if possible — to recreate the symptoms by connecting power to the unit.
In some cases the fault cannot be recreated because the unit requires communication with other parts of the machine that cannot be handed in together with it. We can, however, often simulate these conditions with our test motors or test setups.
3. Circuit analysis
Finally we analyse the circuit — typically without a diagram — by mapping signal paths and measuring individual components. Here our experience from circuit analysis across industries and brands serves us well.
Why this matters for you
This approach ensures that only the necessary parts are replaced — unlike system-level troubleshooting, where entire units are often swapped out. That makes it cheaper for you, faster for production and better for the environment.
